The Night She Went Missing

Emily Callahan and her family have just moved from their small town in Oregon to the island of Galveston where the majority of businesses has her family name on it, including the school she now attends. When Emily goes missing a few months after the move, all eyes are on Alex, the boy who instantly befriended Emily even though he has a sullied reputation. But this town holds many secrets and until they are all revealed, we may never know what really happened to Emily.

Thank you to MIRA and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The book is told from four different perspectives.
1. Emily the missing girl. The book starts with her being found and we learn about what her life was like leading up to her disappearance.
2. Catherine, Emily's mom, who talks about why they left their home during her daughter's senior year of high school.
3. Morgan, Alex's mom, who is just trying to find the best way to defend and protect her son and herself.
4. Leslie, Princess of the town and right hand woman to Rosalyn Callahan who will protect her children at any cost.

I gave this book a 3.5 rating because getting to the meat of the story took a while. It started strong, but I kept waiting to get back to that part. Based on the title, I was thinking the book would be just about one night. Not scattered over a few months.

Overall, I did enjoy the story and will read more by this author.

Kara is a romance author who is up against a deadline and her best friend is getting married. She has enough on her own plate for the next week, when Ryan, her ex from 10 years prior shows up at Christina's pre-wedding party. Her whole life is turned upside down. Will they rekindle their romance, or stay as far away from each other?

Thank you to Graydon House and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title.

This was a cute rom-com. Parts of it felt predictable with a couple of surprises thrown in. One thing I didn't like that I thought I would, was the story in the story. Kara, the main character, is in the process of writing a book and keeping up with her story as well as the story she was writing, it was a bit too much. I think the story would have been just as effective if it would have talked about the story she was writing without including it in the book.

Overall this was a cute story and I will read more by this author.

The Bookstore on the Beach
Three generations of women joined together for a life-changing summer.
Mary, the grandmother, who has deep secrets from her past she would like to remain there.
Autumn, the mother, is unsure whether to move on with life even though her husband has been missing for over a year.
Taylor, the daughter, has a secret of her own, and a new friend she isn't sure she wants to be just friends with.

Thanks to Harlequin Trade Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I was swept up in all the drama this book had to offer. A missing husband, teenage pregnancy, and 35-year-old secrets. I fell in love with the characters and was rooting for their success. I knew how it was going to end, but I was hoping that would not be the case. I was disappointed with the ending which is why it got 3.5 stars instead of 4.

Sebastian and Oscar were friends when they were in elementary school. When Oscar moved away, Sebastian wasn't sure if he would ever see him again. But they did see each other again when they were in college and then again now, at a wedding, Sebastian is a plus one for his friend Dani. Sebastian believes this may be the time when he will be able to fulfill his thoughts about Oscar. Will they be able to build a friendship again and maybe something more?

Thank you to Algonquin Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title.

This book moved slowly for me. It switches back and forth between Sebastian and Oscar narrating the book. They are both deeply hurt men, who are trying to find their way in the changing world. A world that looks like it is becoming more accepting of the LGBTQ+ community when a tragic incident happens.

Each of these men is dealing with their own demons as it concerns their homosexuality. Both of them are sad even though Oscar probably wouldn't admit it. The story follows these two as they go through a year of changes that change them as well.

Shiver

Five friends are brought together after ten years. Ten years before, they spent the winter together, but then, there were more of them. They thought they were brought back for a friendly reunion, but things quickly take a turn and no one knows who to trust. Five friends come to the mountain, but just like ten years before, not all of them will be leaving. Who brought them here and who is behind everything that is going on?

Thanks to G.P. Putnam & Sons for the advanced copy of this book.

Milla, Brent, Curtis, Dale, and Heather, were all summoned to the French retreat they used to spend their winters competing on as snowboarders. This book left me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going on and who was behind all the mysterious happenings? Most were reluctant to come back to this place because it holds a bad memory. The last time there were here, someone was killed. No one knows who was behind the death, and that makes it even harder to want to return.

I knew pretty early on who the culprit was. Finding out who that person was along with the characters made the book more interesting. I haven't read anything by Allie Reynolds before, and I don't know if she has more books out there. If she does, I look forward to reading them.

What 'Cha Readin'? Book Club!

So I want to start a Book Club.  I know we all may already be in a book club.  I am in one that was meeting once a month until COVID hit.  We are still meeting via zoom, which gave me this idea.

I want this book club to be a little different though.  I don't want to have a set book that we read each month, that's a lot of pressure for me.   What I would like to do is get to know my readers and others in the bookish community better, by just getting together maybe once or twice a month and just talk about the books we are reading, any books we may be looking forward to, books we recently DNF'd.

If this is something you would be interested in, let me know.  This isn't limited to people just where I live, I'm hoping I can take this international.  I would do the meetings on Google Meet or maybe Zoom.  If you're interested, let me know by leaving a comment, or send me a message(you can find my email under the contact me tab), or you can click here link to join.

I hope this works and I look forward to hearing from you all.

Happy Reading!!

When I Was You

Kelly Medina lives in Folsom, CA. She is married with a son. Folsom is a pretty small town where everyone knows everyone. One morning, Kelly gets a call from the pediatrician to confirm the appointment with the doctor for the next day. Only problem is that Kelly's son is 19 years old and wouldn't need a well baby checkup. The mother of the child has the exact same name, Kelly Medina. What are the chances? When she goes to the gym later in the day, this woman has been there as well. Kelly is determined to find out who this woman is and what she is doing in her town. When Kelly sees the woman's child, she thinks he looks just like her son when he was that age. Kelly has been through some mental issues in the past and her friends and family aren't sure they believe her about her new "friend". What will happen when these two women get closer? Will both Kelly's survive?

Thank you to MIRA and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This book had me hooked from the very start. I wasn't sure which direction it was going, but I was along for the ride. I had heart palpitations while I was reading this book, you never knew what was coming next. I had no clue how this story was going to end, but WHEW!!!! The faces I made reading this book ...
This first one was right before I hit part two

This is the face I made when the book was over:

There are a lot of elements to this story, like if this other Kelly Medina is a real person or just part of the first Kelly's imagination. You have to read this book to see all the twists and turns this book has. I couldn't put it down.

EXCERPT

Chapter One

It was a Monday morning in early October when I first heard about you. I was getting out of the shower when my phone rang. After throwing on a robe and cinching it, I ran into my bedroom, snatching my cell off the nightstand.
Unknown number.
Normally, I let those go. But I’d already run all the way in here, and I thought maybe it was a call from Dr. Hillerman’s office.
“Hello?” I answered, breathless. Goosebumps rose on my pale flesh, so I pulled the robe tighter around me. My sopping wet hair dripped down my back.
“Is this Kelly Medina?”
Great. A salesperson. “Yes,” I answered, wishing I hadn’t picked up.
“Hi, Kelly, this is Nancy from Dr. Cramer’s office. I’m calling to remind you of your well-baby appointment this Friday at ten am.”
“Well-baby?” I let out a surprised laugh. “You’re about nineteen years too late.”
“Excuse me?” Nancy asked, clearly confused.
 “My son isn’t a baby,” I explained. “He’s nineteen.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” Nancy immediately replied. I could hear the clicking of a keyboard.  “I apologize. I called the wrong Kelly Medina.”
“There’s another Kelly Medina in Folsom?” My maiden name had been Smith. There are a million other Kelly Smiths in the world. In California, even. But since I’d married Rafael, I’d never met another Kelly Medina. Until now.
Until you.
“Yes. Her child is a new patient.”
It felt like yesterday when my child was a new patient. I remembered sitting in the waiting room of Dr. Cramer’s office, holding my tiny newborn, waiting for the nurse to call my name.
“I have no idea how this happened. It’s like your numbers got switched in the system or something,” Nancy muttered, and I wasn’t sure if she was talking to me or herself. “Again, I’m so sorry.”
I assured her it was fine, and hung up. My hair was still wet from the shower, but instead of blow-drying it I headed downstairs to make some tea first. On my way, I passed Aaron’s room. The door was closed, so I pressed it open with my palm. The wood was cold against my skin. Shivering, I took in his neatly made bed, the movie posters tacked to the wall, the darkened desktop computer in the corner.
Leaning against the doorframe of Aaron’s room, my mind flew back to the day he left for college. I remembered his broad smile, his sparkling eyes. He’d been so anxious to leave here. To leave me. I should’ve been happy for him. He was doing what I’d raised him to do.
Boys were supposed to grow up and leave.
In my head I knew that. But in my heart it was hard to let him go.
After closing Aaron’s door, I headed down to the kitchen.
The house was silent. It used to be filled with noise – Aaron’s little feet stomping down the hallway, his sound effects as he played with toys, his chattering as he got older. Now it was always quiet. Especially during the week when Rafael stayed in the Bay Area for work. Aaron had been gone over a year. You’d think I’d be used to it by now. But, actually, it seemed to get worse over time. The constant silence.
The phone call had thrown me. For a second it felt like I’d gone back in time, something I longed for most days. When Aaron was born everyone told me to savor all the moments because it went by too quickly. It was hard for me to imagine. I hadn’t had the easiest life growing up, and it certainly hadn’t flown by. And the nine months I was pregnant with Aaron had gone on forever, every day longer than the one before.
But they were right.
Aaron’s childhood was fleeting. The moments were elusive like a butterfly, practically impossible to catch. And now it was gone. He was a man. And I was alone.
Rafael kept encouraging me to find a job to fill my time, but I’d already tried that. When Aaron first left, I applied for a bunch of jobs. Since I’d been out of work for so long, no one wanted to hire me. That’s when Christine suggested I volunteer somewhere. So I started helping out at a local food bank, handing out food once a week and occasionally doing a little administrative stuff. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t enough. It barely filled any of my time. Besides, I was one of many volunteers. I wasn’t needed. Not the way Aaron had needed me when he was a child.
When he left, the Kelly I’d always known ceased to exist. Vanished into thin air. I was merely a ghost now, haunting my house, the streets, the town.
As the water boiled, I thought about you. Thought about how lucky you were to have a baby and your whole life ahead of you. I wondered what you were doing right now. Not sitting alone in your big, silent house, I bet. No, you were probably chasing your cute little baby around your sunny living room, the floor littered with toys, as he crawled on all fours and laughed.
Was your child a boy? The lady on the phone didn’t say, but that’s what I pictured. A chubby, smiling little boy like my Aaron.
The kettle squealed, and I flinched. I poured the boiling water in a mug and steam rose from it, circling the air in front of my face. Tossing in the tea bag, I breathed it in, leaning my back against the cool tile counter. The picture window in front of me revealed our perfectly manicured front yard – bright green grass lined with rose bushes. I’d always been particular about the roses. When Aaron was a kid he always wanted to help with the pruning, but I never let him. Afraid he’d mess them up, I guess. Seemed silly now.
Heart pinching, I blew out a breath.
I wondered about your yard. What did it look like? Did you have roses? I wondered if you’d let your son help you prune them. I wondered if you’d make the same mistakes I had.
Bringing the mug to my lips, I took a tiny sip of the hot tea. It was mint, my favorite. I allowed the flavors to sit on my tongue a minute before swallowing it down. The refrigerator hummed. The ice shifted in the ice maker. My shoulders tensed slightly. I rolled them out, taking another sip.
Shoving off the counter, I was headed toward the stairs when my cell buzzed inside my pocket. My pulse spiked. It couldn’t be Rafael. He was a professor and his first class had already started.
Aaron?
Nope. It was a text from Christine.
Going to yoga this morning?
I’d already showered. I was about to tackle my latest organization project. Today was the kitchen pantry. Last week I’d bought a bunch of new containers and bins. Friday I’d spent the day labeling all of them. After taking the weekend off since Rafael was home, I was anxious to continue with it. I’d already organized several closets downstairs, but my plan was to work my way through all the closets and cabinets in the house.
Usually I loved yoga, but I had way too much to do today.
No, I typed. Then bit my lip. Backspaced. Stared at the phone. My own reflection emerged on the slick screen - disheveled hair, pale face, dark circles under the eyes.
You need to get out more. Exercise. It’s not healthy to sit in the house all day. Rafael’s voice echoed in my head.
The organizing would still be here tomorrow. Besides, who was I kidding? I’d probably only spend a couple of hours organizing before abandoning my project to read online blogs and articles, or dive into the latest murder mystery I was reading.
I typed, yes, then sent it and hurried to my room to get ready.
Thirty minutes later, I was parking in front of the gym. When I stepped out, a cool breeze whisked over my arms. After three scorching hot summer months, I welcomed it. Fall had always been my favorite season. I relished the festiveness of it. Pumpkins, apples, rustic colors. But mostly it was the leaves falling and being raked away. The bareness of the trees. The shedding of the old to make room for the new. An end, but also a beginning.
Although, we weren’t quite there yet. The leaves were still green, and by afternoon the air would be warm. But in the mornings and evenings we got a tiny sip of a fall, enough to make me thirsty for more.
Securing the gym bag on my shoulder, I walked briskly through the lot. Once inside, it was even colder. The AC blasted as if it was a hundred-degree day. That’s okay. It gave me more of an incentive to break a sweat. Smiling at the receptionist, I pulled out my keys for her to scan my card. Only my card wasn’t hanging from my key ring.
I fished around in my bag, but it wasn’t there either. Flushing, I offered the bored receptionist an apologetic smile. “I seem to have misplaced my tag. Can you look me up? Kelly Medina?’
Her eyes widened. “Funny. There was another lady in here earlier today with the same name.”
My heart pounded. I’d been attending this gym for years and never had anyone mentioned you before. I wondered how long you’d worked out here. “Is she still here?” My gaze scoured the lobby as if I might recognize you.
“No. She was here super early.”
Of course you were. I used to be, too, when Aaron was an infant.
“Okay. You’re all checked in, Kelly,” the receptionist said, buzzing me in.
Clutching my gym bag, I made my way up the stairs toward the yoga room, thoughts of you flooding my mind. A few young women walked next to me, wearing tight tank tops and pants, gym bags hanging off their shoulders. They were laughing and chatting loudly, their long ponytails bouncing behind their heads. I tried to say excuse me, to move past them, but they couldn’t hear me. Impatient, I bit my lip and walked slowly behind them. Finally, I made it to the top. They headed toward the cardio machines, and I pressed open the door to the yoga room.
I spotted Christine already sitting on her mat. Her blond hair was pulled back into a perfectly coifed ponytail. Her eyes were bright and her lips were shiny. I smoothed down my unruly brown hair and licked my dry lips.
She waved me over with a large smile. “You made it.”
“Yep.” I dropped my mat and bag next to hers.
“I wasn’t sure. It’s been awhile.”
Shrugging, I sat down on my mat. “Been busy.”
“Oh, I totally get that.” She waved away my words with a flick of her slender wrist. “Maddie and Mason have had a bazillion activities lately. I’ve been running around town like a crazy person. I honestly feel like I’m going insane.”
“Sounds rough,” I muttered, slipping off my flip-flops. This was the problem with getting married and having a kid so young. Most of my friends were still raising families.
“I know, right? I can’t wait until they’re adults and I can do whatever I want.”
“Yeah, it’s the best,” I said sarcastically.
Her mouth dropped. “Oh, I’m sorry. I wasn’t talking about you…” Her pale cheeks turned pink. “I know how much you miss Aaron. It’s just…”
I shook my head and offered her a smile “Relax. I get it.”
Christine and I met years ago in a yoga class. She’s one of those women with almost no self-awareness. It’s what first drew to me to her. I loved how raw and real she was. Other people shied away from her, unable to handle her filter-less statements. But I found her refreshing and, honestly, pretty entertaining.
“I remember how insane it was when Aaron was younger,” I said. “One year he signed up for baseball and basketball. They overlapped for a bit, and I swear I was taking him to a game or practice like every day.”
“Yes!” Christine said excitedly, relief evident in her expression. “Sometimes it’s all just too much.”
“Yeah, sometimes it is,” I agreed.
The class was about to start and the room was filling up. It was mainly women, but there were some men. Most of them were with their wives or girlfriends. I’d tried getting Rafael to come with me before, but he laughed as if the idea was preposterous.
“Remember when there were only a few of us in this class?” Christine asked, her gaze sweeping the room.
I nodded, glancing around. There were so many new people I didn’t know. Not that I was surprised. Folsom had grown a lot in the ten years I’d lived here. New people moved here every day.
Staring at all the strangers crowding around us, I shivered, my thoughts drifting back to you. We hadn’t even met, and yet I felt like I knew you. We had the same name, the same gym, the same pediatrician for our child.
It felt like kismet. Fate had brought you here to me. I was certain of it.
But why?

Secret Crush Seduction (The Heirs of Hansol Book 2)

Adelaide Song has had a crush on her brother's best friend, Michael, as long as she can remember. When he got married, it broke her heart and turned her into a bad girl. Now, Michael is divorced and Adelaide is focused on getting into the family business by getting in the good graces of her grandmother. When she comes up with an idea for a fashion show featuring sensory sensitive clothing, she will need Michael's help to pull it off. With the two of them working so quickly, business can quickly turn to pleasure, but is it worth it to lose Michael's friendship over?

Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title.

This is the second book in The Heirs of Hansol series. The first title is Temporary Wife Temptation (click on the title to read my review). This was a quick read for me. I was invested in the story from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen with Adelaide and Michael. In these types of stories, you already know what is going to happen at the end, but it's the story leading up to it that is the best part.

Jayci Lee is quickly becoming one of my favorite romance authors. Her stories are sweet romances that you can fall in love with. She writes characters you want to be friends with. This is the third title of hers that I've read this year. I thank you to Harlequin for introducing me to this author.

EXCERPT

“Michael, What are you doing here?” she asked, her expression schooled into a bored, sardonic smirk.
Michael ran his hand through his hair and tugged a fistful at the top of his head. His scalp felt stretched too tight.
“So her majesty, Grace Song, summoned you to check on me.” Angry splashes of color stained her cheeks. “Since when have you been her errand boy?”
“Addy…”
“Don’t. Call. Me. That.” She pivoted and marched away from him.
“Damn it.” He went after her and stopped her trajectory by taking a firm grip of her hand. “She’s worried about you. Worried enough to call me to find you. What happened between you two?”
“We argued because I’m sick of being treated like a child. Ironically, I ran out of the house sobbing like one.” The rage vibrating through Adelaide seeped out of her, and her shoulders drooped in fatigue. “I could understand why she’s worried. She hasn’t seen me cry since I was seven. But enough is enough. I can’t go on like this.”
Now he understood why Mrs. Song had called him. Adelaide’s older brother, Garrett, was in New York with his wife and daughter, and Colin was probably unreachable. She had wanted this kept close to the family. Michael wasn’t family, but growing up, he’d spent more time at the Songs’ than at home. Plus, he was their publicist. She knew he’d be discreet about whatever state he found Adelaide in.
“I’m ready take my place at Hansol, but Hal-muh-nee shut me down with another ‘maybe next year.’ Hansol is my family’s legacy, and I want to be a part of its future.” Adelaide’s voice trailed off into a sad, forlorn sigh, and Michael wrapped his arms around her. He wanted to chase her sadness away, but the best he could do was listen. “She’s been saying that for the last two years. And next time when I ask her again, it’ll be the same answer. She doesn’t believe I have anything to contribute. I’m nothing but a clueless child to her.”
“That can’t be true. You’re one of the smartest people I know,” he said, running his hand through the silky strands of her long hair. Her arms tightened around him. “You’re far from being a clueless child, and your grandmother knows that better than anyone.”
“Then why is she keeping me out of Hansol?” She leaned back to meet his eyes. “She’s afraid I’ll tarnish Hansol’s reputation. She hasn’t forgiven me for my college days. Most of the crap in the tabloids didn’t even have a grain of truth in them. Yes, I partied hard and dated more than my fair share of guys, but I’m not an eighteen-year-old anymore.”
“I can’t imagine your grandmother being that small-minded. There has to be another reason, but you know her better than me. Besides, if that’s what you think, there’s an easy fix.” His arms still encircled her waist, and he was drawing slow circles on her lower back. When his brain registered what his hand was doing, he coughed and dropped his arms.
Adelaide arched an eyebrow and crossed her arms. He didn’t know if it was because she was waiting to hear his suggestion or because of his hurried step away from her. “Tell me more about this easy fix.”
His mind went blank. Her crossed arms had the effect of a bustier, pulling her breasts close and lifting them high. The sexy-as-hell scene at the club must have short-circuited his brain. He beat away his heightened awareness and focused on the shadowy outlines of the plan that had formed in his head.

Intercepted (Playbook, #1)

Marlee and Chris have been dating on an off since high school and have known each other even longer. Marlee was there long before Chris was a Mustang. But when a new player joins the team, it's someone Marlee recognizes from a one night stand she had while on a break with Chris. Gavin Pope is nothing like Chris at all. When Chris's secrets come to the light, Marlee has decided she is done for good. She doesn't want to date another football player, but there is something about Gavin that is drawing her in. Will they or won't they?

During this quarantine, I have really fallen in love with this series from Alexa Martin. When I was finished with the first three books, I was ready for the next one. Good thing, because a new book is coming out in October of this year. I'm so excited for it.

So far this story has been my favorite in the series. Gavin is the type of guy every girl wishes she could date, or if not have for a best guy friend on a big brother. He's just a nice guy and that's it. He doesn't expect anything else in return for his niceties. And to top it off, he's hot. He and Marlee could be perfect for each other, if she can get over the past.

If you like football, if you like romance, I suggest you get this book and the entire series right away.

Someone Knows

Being the new kid in town is never easy. It's especially hard when it's the final year of school and friend groups have already been long established. In order to join this one particular group of friends, you have to go through a small initiation, but something goes horribly wrong. Twenty years later, the friends are back together and they are each still suffering in their own way from the events of the past. When tragedy strikes, one member of the group will reexamine the past and the present and find some unexpected truths.

I love Lisa Scottoline. Her books always make you think and keep you on your toes. She is one of the few authors whose books I will buy without reading the description.

Her books seem to always be centered around family drama. The end of this book was a complete shock for me and that is what I love. The group starts with 4 friends when the new kid comes to town. Two boys and two girls. One of the girls takes a liking to the new boy, but another in the group is not having it. You don't know who to trust in this book and by the end you will be totally shocked!

His & Hers

Anna Andrews is a presenter for the BBC News. She presents the 1:00 pm newscast. She has this position since the person who had her slot is on maternity leave. When she returns, she is pushed to work in the field. Her first assignment is to report on a murder in her hometown. To top it off she has to work with her ex-husband,Jack, on this case and she knows the victim. When more people she knows end up dead both she and her ex are considered suspects. But we know there are always more than one side to a story, this is His & Hers.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audio book and review it.

You all know how much I love a good thriller. I have really enjoyed all of the other books that Alice Feeney has written and this one was no exception.

While listening to this book, I knew for sure who was killing all of these women. Of course it's the drunk woman who forgets what happens while she is drinking. Not only is the author good at making you not know who is the killer, the killer is good at framing other people for their crimes.

There is a lot going on in this book, but it keeps you drawn in from the very beginning. It takes you back and forth in time from Anna's school days to the present. We learn about all of Anna's troubles. We also learn about Jack and his life since he and Anna split up. It's hard to tell you more without giving away too much, so you will just have to go and give it a read!

Hairpin Curves

Meghan and Scarlet have been friend for a long time. Right after high school, they had a falling out, but they haven't really spoken since. When one of their close friends is getting married in Quebec, they make a choice to drive there together. Meghan has never left Florida and Scarlet hasn't seen much of the country either, so this will be an adventure for them both. They will find out more about each other than ever before. But will they be able to rekindle their friendship?

Thank you to Carina Press/Harlequin for the opportunity to read and review this book.

When Scarlet didn't show up to be roommates with Meghan, Meghan was devastated. But Scarlet is hiding a few secrets about why she chose not to go with Meghan. To top that off, they both have more than friendly feelings for each other.

This isn't the typical type of romance that I normally read, but it kept me entertained. This is a LGQBT+ book.

When I was in college, I loved taking road trips with my friends. Going to school in Texas, it's not hard to drive all day and still be in the same state. Making tapes or CDs for the journey, and planning out snacks and stops. That part of this book I could relate too very much.

For those of you who are interested in a frenemies to lovers book that includes a Female/Female romance, I think you will enjoy this book.

EXCERPT
Megan hadn’t brought a lot of clothing on this trip, anticipating getting to do laundry at some
hotel along the way, but she had a couple of nice outfits in addition to the dress she planned to
wear for the wedding. She selected an emerald green sweater dress from her suitcase. She was
normally more of a jeans kind of girl, but this dress made her feel cute, and it felt very Nashville
when she paired it with some knee-high boots. She gathered up her clothes and undergarments
and headed for the bathroom.
When she left the bathroom, Scarlett was pinning up her curls into two buns up near the top of
her head. It was one of the cutest hairstyles she wore, and one that always made Megan wish for
something other than her own super-straight brown hair. Scarlett looked away from her hair
when Megan entered the room, her gaze skimming down Megan’s body in a way that made
Megan burn up inside.
Before Scarlett could say something, whether it was going to be a compliment or not, Megan
blurted out, “I don’t know what to do with my hair.”
Scarlett tapped her lips, studying her like she was an interesting painting. “You want me to
curl it?” Scarlett asked.
“My hair doesn’t curl.” Megan had never had any luck with that. “It’s too fine.”
Scarlett tucked the final bobby pin into her own style and walked over to Megan, running her
hand through Megan’s hair. The contact sent a chill all down Megan’s spine. Oh, she wanted
Scarlett to keep touching her like that.
“It’s pretty fine.” Scarlett gathered up a bunch of Megan’s hair in her hands. Megan shivered.
Hopefully Scarlett wouldn’t notice the shiver. “It would curl if you didn’t wash it so much. You
need it to get dirty.”
Megan laughed, and it sounded breathless coming out. “I don’t really do dirty.”
Scarlett still had the hold on her hair, and she tipped Megan’s head back to look at her. “You
sure about that?”
The unspoken after last night hung in the air between them. Megan sucked in a breath, her lips
parting, and their gazes locked. Then it was like Scarlett had suddenly realized what she said,
and she slid her hands out of Megan’s hair and backed away. “Your hair is cute just like it is.
You don’t need to do anything to it.” She turned toward the mirror again and fumbled with her
makeup bag. Was it Megan’s imagination, or were Scarlett’s hands shaking? “You, uh, ever
think about cutting it?” Scarlett asked.
Megan was still rattled and warm all over. It took her a moment to process Scarlett’s words.
“Oh. Yeah, actually. Sometimes I think about a pixie cut. Cutting all of it off. But I get nervous.”
“It’s a big step. But you’ve got the perfect heart-shaped face for it.” Scarlett glanced over, then
back at the mirror. “If you ever want to do it, there’s probably a million great salons along our
road trip. Could be a fun change. And it grows back.”
She was talking fast. Megan was having a hard time thinking. “Yeah. Maybe. I’ll…do my
makeup.”
She had the new makeup from Sephora to try, and while it wasn’t her area of expertise, she put
together what she hoped was a good look—not super fancy, but she didn’t end up looking like a
clown, either. When she returned from the bathroom, Scarlett was done.
“What about lipstick?” Scarlett asked.
“I’m wearing some.” Megan resisted the urge to touch her lips in reflex.
Scarlett frowned. “Nude?”
“It’s light pink.”
“You need a bold lip. Something really red. It would bring the whole look together.”
“I don’t have anything really red.” Megan stuck with all light pinks whenever she got makeup,
which wasn’t very often. Red was showy and ostentatious, and she wasn’t the type of person to
try to get noticed.
Scarlett rummaged in her bag and pulled out a lipstick. “Here. Let me.” She touched Megan’s
chin, gently tilting her head back, and then began to apply the lipstick with focused precision.
Megan tried not to shiver as Scarlett held her face perfectly still, her attention locked onto
Megan’s lips. When she finished, they held that pose, and desire flared up in Megan like a
flashover. She wanted to lean forward and ruin that perfect lipstick against Scarlett’s berry-red
mouth.

Review: Blitzed by Alexa Martin

Blitzed by Alexa  Martin

Blitzed (Playbook, #3)

Brynn is the owner of a great bar called HERS. It's a bar for women ran by women. Not only that, a few of her close friends film a lot of their reality show in her bar. They are wives of the local football team, the Mustangs. Maxwell Lewis is one of those Mustangs, but he isn't married and he rarely comes into the bar. But when he does, he seems very reserved. Even though she is attracted to him, she can't bring herself to let him know. When she breaks down on the side of the road and he's the only one who can help her, they will have to see if they can develop something.

Even though this is the third book in the series, it's the first one that I ended up reading. I wasn't sure of the order. The books don't have to be read in order though for them to be understood. This is a sports romance book. Whether or not you are a fan of football, I think that you would enjoy this story. It's more than a romance. It's also about female friendships and bonds.

This is the first book I've read or listened to by Alexa Martin. I have had these books on my TBR since they were released, but this is the first opportunity I've had to read them. For me, you couldn't help but have soft spot for Maxwell. He isn't your typical football player who is showy. He sticks to himself and is very reserved. Brynn really doesn't have him or any of the other Mustang players on her radar even though they are pleasant to look at. When he comes to her rescue, things for the both of them turn around.

Will they be able to handle a relationship, or is it doomed from the start?
