Emily Callahan and her family have just moved from their small town in Oregon to the island of Galveston where the majority of businesses has her family name on it, including the school she now attends. When Emily goes missing a few months after the move, all eyes are on Alex, the boy who instantly befriended Emily even though he has a sullied reputation. But this town holds many secrets and until they are all revealed, we may never know what really happened to Emily.

The book is told from four different perspectives.
1. Emily the missing girl. The book starts with her being found and we learn about what her life was like leading up to her disappearance.
2. Catherine, Emily's mom, who talks about why they left their home during her daughter's senior year of high school.
3. Morgan, Alex's mom, who is just trying to find the best way to defend and protect her son and herself.
4. Leslie, Princess of the town and right hand woman to Rosalyn Callahan who will protect her children at any cost.

I gave this book a 3.5 rating because getting to the meat of the story took a while. It started strong, but I kept waiting to get back to that part. Based on the title, I was thinking the book would be just about one night. Not scattered over a few months.

Overall, I did enjoy the story and will read more by this author.

Emmeline and her father live on a remote island. It's just the two of them and Emmeline has learned all she knows from her father, but the greatest thing she has learned, is how to use scents to determine what is going on in the world. Cut off from the rest of society, people are just objects in books, and her father is the only other physical person she knows. When she turns 13 and is forced into the "real" world, she quickly discovers that it's more than scents that she will need to make it in life.

When I first heard about this book, I was quite intrigued. A whole book about a cottage filled with drawers of scents. How was this going to play out? Would it hold my attention? Boy did it ever. will admit, when I started reading, I was skeptical about which direction the book would take me. The journey was exciting and thrilling and it left me wanting more.

The Scent Keeper is the first book I have read by Erica Bauermeister, but I do look forward to reading more books by her. This is the type of book that is kind of hard to review without giving too much of the story away. This is a story that you will feel in your heart. You will start to understand and smell scents in a different way.

This book has something for everyone in it. A little bit of magic, thrills, just a touch of romance, and scents from all over. I think that if you pick up this book you will enjoy it. I wasn't sure after the description and reading the first couple of chapters, but this story really grew on me and it will stay with me for a while.

Josephine Bettendorf Warrick is 99 years old. She has terminal cancer and any day could be her last. She asks for the help of Brooke Trappnell an attorney in town to help settle her affairs. Brooke is aware that Ms. Warrick has attorneys and lives on an island off the coast of Georgia. Why she needs Brooke's help is unclear. Brooke's grandmother was an old friend of Josephine's and they lost touch over the years. Josephine would like to make amends to her friends and leave them a part of the island so that the state will not get a hold of it, for that she needs Brooke's help. Josephine, Ruth, Millie, and Varina were The High Tide Club. Before she dies she wants to see in person her friends or their relatives. Will Josephine be able to accomplish everything she needs to before her death?

It has been a while since I have read one of Ms. Andrew's books. This book was good.  It held my attention and kept me intrigued throughout.

Can you imagine living on an island in a palatial estate? Cut off from most of the world by the ocean. Sounds like a dream come true to me.

The story switches time from present day to 1941 when The High Tide Club was formed. There are many secrets that these friends shared and kept from one another. The four friends lost touch after the war except for Josephine and Varina, although their relationship has strained over the past few years.

Brooke herself is the granddaughter of Millie which is why Josephine chose her for the job in the first place. Brooke finds out things about her family she didn't know about and is successful at bringing together the ancestors of her friends. But the state wants the land and Josephine's distant relatives want to give it up to them. Discoveries are made and secrets are uncovered in this book.
