Review: Ethic by Ashley Antoinette

Ethic by Ashley Antoinette
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Published: March 2018
Ethic

Ethic is a heartbroken man. He called in the hit that took the life of his love. Now he is raising his own children along with his love's sister, Morgan. Morgan wants to live the same life her sister did. Ethic is trying to move on from that life and keep Morgan far away from it. But it's in her blood and she just can't stay away. Being he is not her father, it's hard to keep her reigned in. Will he be able to keep both her and his own children safe and stay out of the life that has hurt him so badly?

I really enjoyed Moth to a Flame and I couldn't wait to read more of Ethic's story. This book will grab at your heartstrings and play a sad song.

I have only read a few of Ashley Antoinette's books, but I have enjoyed them. They grab your attention right from the beginning and won't let you go until the very end. Whether you listen to the book or read it, you are sure to be swept up in the story.

After reading this I immediately went to Ethic 2. I might finish the entire series before long.

Review: Seven Letters by JP Monninger

Seven Letters by J.P. Monninger
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Published: Oct. 2019
Seven Letters

Kate Moreton is a professor at Darthmouth. She is writing about her Irish heritage as a part of her doctoral dissertation and decides to take the semester and spend it in Ireland to do the research she needs to do on the Blasket Islands and the people who used to live there. What she isn't expecting is to fall in love with the place as well as a certain American who also lives there, Ozzie Ferriter. Their romance is fast paced. Will their love be able to last over the oceans or will one of them make a sacrifice for them to be together.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was definitely a slow read for me. Overall the story was very bland. Girl does work in Ireland, girl meets boy, boy is mysterious, boy and girl fall in love, what happens next ... The whole story is very slow paced even though it covers a few years. I didn't find myself investing in the characters or the story as a whole. I have read one other book by JP Monninger, a  Map That Leads to You, and that one was a bit more interesting.

What would you do if you met a man who seemed perfect for you, but he lived a world away. Would you give up the life you've known to be with him or would you find a way for you all to be together? That is the dilemma Kate faces when she meets Ozzie. Will she stay in her native land or return to her home? Is Ozzie really the man that she thinks he is or is his past holding him back from being the man he could be? Can you change someone to be the person you want them to be or do you have to accept them for who they are? All of these are questions that will be answered in the book.

Review: The Inn at Hidden Run

The Inn at Hidden Run by Olivia Newport
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Published: May 2019

Hidden Run is a B&B in the small town of Canyon Mines, just outside of Denver, Colorado. When a stranger comes to town looking lost, Jillian and her father Nolan are determined to help her find her way. Meri comes from a family of doctors, but that is not what she wants to do. Maybe coming to Colorado, a place she last felt like herself will help her to find the future that is best for her.

Thank you to NetGalley & Barbour Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The title of this book really isn't fitting for what it contains. It's much more than the Inn. That is where Meri is situated while in Colorado, but it's really about the people in the town that help her when she is lost. Meri loves her family, but doesn't feel the calling to be a doctor like everyone else for generations has been. When she comes to Canyon Mines, Jillian, who is a genealogist, helps her to find her family roots and maybe explain while she feels the way she does.

I gave this book three stars, because it didn't grasp my attention right away. At times it felt as if the story line kept repeating the same things, like the author copy and pasted a line from one chapter to all the other chapters in the book. Overall the book is enjoyable, trading from modern day Colorado, to 1800's Memphis during the yellow fever outbreak. This is a good book for those the enjoy historical fiction. I did learn a lot about that epidemic which includes some very factual details in this story.

Review: Dreams of Falling by Karen White

Dreams of Falling by Karen White
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Published: 2018

When Larkin left Georgetown, South Carolina, her plan was to go back there as little as possible. She has finally settled in to her life in New York City and the pull to the south grows less and less each day. Then Larkin gets a call that her mother is missing. She drops everything and goes back to Georgetown in her mind hoping she will only be gone a few days. When she returns home, things aren't as they once were. Will Larkin return to New York as soon as she can, or will her memories and secrets of the past keep her where she is supposed to be?

Thank yo to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I have read a few other books by Karen White and have enjoyed them. This one took a while for me to get into. When I first graduated high school, I wanted to get as far away from home as I could. I went 2000 miles away to Texas. I wasn't running away from my family as it seems Larkin is, but I wanted to be away from them to find myself.

Larkin has a very unusual family. She has her parents, Ivy and Mack and she has her biological grandparents who died long before she came along and 2 psuedo-grandmothers that helped to raise her. CeeCee and Bitty. These women were her grandmother's best friend and had raised her mother as well. Between Larkin, Ivy, and CeeCee 60 years of history is explored in this book. Decisions that were made and how they affected the outcome of everyone's lives.

If you enjoy a story about family secrets and finding yourself in your own backyard, then you will enjoy this book.
